How many kWh of battery do I need to back up my whole home?

Most homes need 10-30 kWh of usable storage for whole-home backup, depending on essential loads and how long you want to ride through an outage. A typical US home draws 20-30 kWh per day; backing up only essentials (fridge, lights, internet, well pump) can run for a day or more on 16 kWh, while running HVAC and larger loads pushes you toward 28 kWh or a stacked system. How long do LiFePO4 home batteries last?

LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries are rated for 6,500-8,000+ charge cycles at 80% depth of discharge. With daily cycling that's roughly 15-20 years of service, far longer than the 1,000-2,000 cycles typical of older lithium-ion chemistries. They also hold capacity better over time and tolerate a wider temperature range.

What's the difference between a hybrid inverter and a grid-tie inverter?

A grid-tie inverter only converts solar DC to AC and feeds it to the grid or your loads — it shuts off during an outage. A hybrid inverter adds battery charging/discharging and a backup mode, so it keeps your home powered when the grid is down, stores solar for later, and can run off-grid. Our split-phase hybrids transfer to battery in under 10 ms.

Can I go fully off-grid with these systems?

Yes. Pairing a hybrid inverter with enough LiFePO4 storage and solar lets you run a home entirely off-grid. The right size depends on your daily energy use, solar resource, and how many days of autonomy you want for cloudy stretches. Most off-grid homes combine a 10-12 kW inverter with 28 kWh or more of stacked battery capacity.

Are LiFePO4 batteries safe?

LiFePO4 is the safest mainstream lithium chemistry for home storage. It is highly resistant to thermal runaway, doesn't release oxygen when damaged, and runs cooler than NMC lithium-ion. Our systems add a battery management system (BMS) that protects against over-charge, over-discharge, short circuit, and temperature extremes, and carry UL and IEC safety certifications.

Do I need a professional installer?

Yes — battery and inverter systems tie into your home's electrical panel and, in most jurisdictions, require a licensed electrician and a permit.
